The 7 Types of Bodies: Physical, Emotional & Spiritual Guide 2025

We each have the capacity for seven different types of bodies, according to the Theosophical Society, which Helena Blavatsky co-founded in 1875 and which drew its knowledge from ancient India and its rich tradition of yoga disciplines. Body, etheric (or energy), astral (or emotional), soul (or ego), manas, buddhi, and atman are the several types of bodies.

Rudolf Steiner, who founded the Anthroposophical Society in 1912 and wrote several books that established the spiritual science of man, served as the inspiration for my explanation that follows. The two esoteric societies are different in that Rudolf Steiner broadened his research and ideas to encompass western impulses like those of ancient Egypt and Persia in addition to ancient Indian thinking.

You can better understand the emerging healing modalities in our modern society by being aware of our seven different body types.

  • The four bodies that people experience
  • The body itself
  • The living body, etheric, or energy
  • The emotional or astral body
  • The "I" body, often known as the soul, is where our unique awareness originates.
